Spinning Success

Danny Briggs has been selected for England’s touring one day squads (T20 and 50 overs). If he becomes too successful and Hampshire lose him during the season they will not have much in the way of spin bowling – probably just batting spinners Dawson, Katich and Carberry. Still at least we may avoid another spinners wicket farce like the points penalty v Notts last year. During the recent UAE Test Series v Pakistan I kept seeing Giles Clark lounging around and wondered when Tony Pigot would appear ……

I’m being lazy and updating this with a comment. It’s February 21 and Danny today made his 50 over England debut. He took two wickets and was the first IOW cricketer ever to play for England. Last night he won Sportsman of the Year at Portsmouth’s News Awards.
