Ashes: going, going …

We are only just past the halfway mark in the series but the Ashes have almost gone, although Stokes impressed late on day four. Michael Carberry has now played eight Test Match innings and in six of them he has reached at least 30, which suggests he is good enough. However, only once has he passed 50 and then not by many.

Meanwhile compare these scores in this match – one which England will probably lose by about 150 runs

Australia, first innings were 143-5 and England first innings were 85-0

Australia, second innings were 223-3 and England second innings are 251-5

Yet England are being stuffed.

Just heard the amazing statistic that, after twenty minutes of this morning’s play, the Aussies had scored 1,000 more runs than England in the series!

Still no need to worry. We have Harmison’s mate “the greatest cricketer ever to play for England” in our side so it can only be a matter of time before we whip the Aussies. Can’t it?

Prepare for Harmy’s mate to start his campaign to regain the England captaincy – if it hasn’t started already.

Maybe I am looking too far ahead but it is possible that we may not see much of Michael next season. Will Smith could prove to be even more handy than I think he already might be.
