There was a full house at the AGM and Forum last night although a technical hitch meant the latter had to be recorded and can be heard on Radio Solent this evening. There was quite a lot of discussion about the future of English cricket, none of it encouraging for those of us who love the county championship.
We were told that Jackson Bird is coming on an open-ended contract and this morning the Australian 17 to tour England was announced, with no Bird – so if things go well he could stay all season.

And no Isle of Wight first-team fixture this season announced today.
Comment by James March 31, 2015 @ 2:51 pmYes, Stuart Robertson said last night they were impressed by Newclose but felt there were too many logistical questions to go ahead this year – and they were sensitive to the matter of announcing such a move before selling annual memberships. Quite possibly next year however.

Whilst I would be in favour of retaining the current system. I think if Counties are retained but in three divisions for Championship and there was a 2 Division T20 comp. Then I don’t think I would mind that compared to going down the franchise route.
