I’ve taken down recent posts with no comments

This is a summary ref the Warwickshire target:

Hampshire all out – 379 to win

There have been only four scores ever v Hampshire, higher than Warwickshire’s target and only three ended in victory

The highest was a match lost by Worcs in 1995 (413)

The three wins:

404 by Lancs in 1910

397 by West Indies in 1969

385 by Lancashire in 1939

So if Warwicks win it will be the highest winning 4th inns against Hampshire for 46 years

Warwickshire’s highest ever 4th innings v Hampshire is 339 all out and lost, chasing 377 at Northlands Road in 1982

2011 Edgbaston: Warwicks 98 all out chasing 308 to win

2010 Rose Bowl: Warwicks won by 10 wkts (51-0)

2010 Edgbaston: Warwicks won by 8 wkts (80-2)

2007 Rose Bowl: Hants won with 331-5 but early declaration and forfeit after rain

2006 Edgbaston: Warwicks won by 2 wkts (121-8)

2006 Edgbaston: Hants won by 193 runs – W 213 all out

2005 Stratford Warwicks won by 10 wickets (44-0)

2002 Both drawn

2001 Both drawn

So since Two Divisions in 21st Century, the only successful BIG run chase was that declaration/forfeit game with Carberry’s huge score in 2007 at the Rose Bowl (Hants 331-5 won by 5 wkts)

Kevan James is reporting that Bird may not be fit for the Notts game. I wonder whether they can tear up the contract, send him home and look for someone else?

Maybe we should sign overseas players on a “Pay as you play” deal in future?

Given the general quality and availability of them, for the first time ever, I’d favour not using them (or Kolpacks) any more. It’s not as though we get to see modern equivalents of Richards, Greenidge, Marshall, Warne (Sobers, Tendulkar, Holding IVA Richards) etc

Personally I would restrict sides to two overseas signings a season in the Championship (only one eligible to play at any one time) and have a minimum contract of three months to stop counties signing players for one or two games.

I gather Fidel Edwards is here for the second half of the season. If Bird isn’t going to be fit pretty soon I wonder if Edwards could come earlier? (Ideally before he picks up an injury!).
