Finally …

A detail from the PCA Survey. As I understand it the counties will meet next week (1 September) to discuss the ECB proposals. The PCA Survey report concludes as follows:

“Finally, if Counties do not approve the reduction from 16 Championship games to 14, we should:-

10. Consider a re-structuring of the Royal London Cup, for example by returning to three regional groups of six (playing everyone once) and/or removing the quarter final stage, saving four playing days in the calendar and alleviating workload and travel pressures.

11. Re-introduce blocking of NatWest T20 Blast fixtures, even if into two or three mini blocks.”

(Incidentally don’t be fooled by my heading – there will be more!)

These PCA conclusions don’t follow AT ALL from the results of their own survey, which are (surprisingly, and encouragingly) pro LVCC (but, worryingly, far more so than the negative noises from Adams, Benkenstein and White in our own camp).

Jack Brooks tweeted yesterday: “I think 16 Champo’s is fine. Just better scheduling around it. Smaller 50 over groups & block of T20 in Aug school hols.”

That’s a quick bowler talking, more entitled to winge than anyone else.

The LVCC is important to a lot of people, who are actually the reason first class cricket has survived as a professional sport providing a few thousand people with a good living.

The World Cup, now the sole reason for bothering with 50 over cricket (until this years actually quite enjoyable cup, until yesterday đŸ˜‰ ), provides a few days mild interest once every four years, though more when it’s staged here.
