Hampshire Cricket History

Richard asked mentioned Fidel Edwards’ figures and whether they were the most costly ever for Hampshire, having taken no wickets. Somewhere in the Archive I have a list of our most expensive ever although there were sometimes at least wickets involved. Richard cites Kennedy and from memory I think the list includes Newman and Udal but might be topped by Imran Tahir. I haven’t gone looking for his figures (Bob? Tigger?) but I’m pretty sure he once conceded around 250 in an innings.

Incidentally Fidel’s at Headingley last season, where he made his Hampshire debut, were 1-77 and 2-96, or combined across the match 3-173 in 32.3 overs. Add to that this year’s 0-145 in 23 overs and at Headingley he goes at 5.8 per over.

He’ll probably take 8-16 today and we’ll win a victory to rank close to Edgbaston in 1922!

The most runs conceded in an innings by a Hampshire bowler is 213 by Shaun Udal in 2002. He did take 4 wickets though. The most runs conceded without taking a wicket is Kennedy in 1921 v Aussies (0-158)
