In today’s Pompey News, James confirmed they had wanted to give Tino and Mason a bit of a bowl yesterday afternoon. However, he added “we had a little chance of getting something” after declaring. No you didn’t James, not the slightest chance.

Today’s edition of the has a headline “England coaches say Test No 3 spot is Vince’s to lose”. The first paragraph says James “is thought to be at the forefront of the selectors’ minds” which isn’t quite the same thing, but if it’s true good luck to him. The article goes on to say that James “usually bats at No 3 for Hampshire” although that only started in August of last season.

If he does get the call I wonder where Hampshire will turn? Will Smith is struggling for runs at present and Tom Alsop didn’t get many in his two outings. Joe Weatherley is in good ‘nick’ and maybe Lewis McManus could play as a batter?

If Vince does get called up I’d go with a batting line up of…
Adams
Carbs
Smith
Weatherly
Dawson
Wheater
Ervine
Mclaren

We could simply pick the guy who topped our Championship batting averages last season with an average of 46.67.

Oh wait a moment ……….

“Hey Joe …. where you going with that bat in your hand?”

There again there’s always the extremely in-form Basil

Good line Dave! In answer to your question he is going to East Anglian Premier League champions Swardeston this season.

Unfortunately Basil is also busy playing for Sarisbury Athletic!
