Hampshire Cricket History

Despite considerable help with the weather yesterday, Hampshire got pretty much what they deserved from the game at Old Trafford and are bottom of the table. We were told that Lancashire’s 456 reflected a good batting wicket yet not one Hampshire player reached 50 in either innings.

Hampshire have been picking four specialist top order batsmen this season followed by all-rounders and a wicketkeeper. Wheater has been most consistent with the bat, meanwhile the top four have played 28 completed innings with two centuries and one half-century. I wonder whether we shall see Andrew appear for Hampshire again?

PS One slight hope is that the four teams that Hampshire have played to date are tonight in the top five. Less cheering is the thought that the fifth, Nottinghamshire, are next up and that James Vince might well be disappearing soon – for his sake, I hope for some years!
