v MCC Young Cricketers – three days starting today. Are Alsop and Weatherley competing for Vince’s place? If so they’ve started nicely: 63-0 after 15 overs and one hour

Thanks to Bob E for the Hampshire team which does not include bowlers Ali, Young or Andrew (or any of the recovering wounded):

Tom Alsop, Joe Weatherley, Lewis McManus, Aaron West, Ben Duggan, Jake Goodwin, Josh McCoy, Andy Gorvin, Jake Lintott, Brad Wheal, John Steele, Steve Warner

I’m hoping to watch a bit tomorrow (with some photos). In the meantime, please add any info here and/or check the score at

More thrills at Taunton. By lunchtime, an average of one wicket per session which should mean Somerset all out for about 3,000 around lunchtime on the fourth day. Calling Mr Pigot!

148-1, Weatherley run out 39 will be mad! Alsop now in 80s

McManus out for 34, Alsop 122*

282-4 at tea when I left. Alsop 154 lbw. Two ex-captains on the ground (Stephenson and Adams) – who will be the next?

New man Gareth Andrew also around, as were Woody (on crutches, and rumoured to be out for the season) and Brad Taylor (sans big boot).

Would that be JP or GR?

Comment by Paul

Oh no……that doesn’t sound great about Chris Wood 😕

I suspect JP (MCC side). Ben Duggan going nicely after Batman’s sidekick perished cheaply – at 5.30pm it’s 282-4

Comment by pompeypop

Yes, JP.

Close of play – Hampshire 402-8 (dec) MCC YC 35-4 (Wheal 3-19).

Inns victory tomorrow? Rain forecast for Weds. Not sure if it’s preparation for Notts on Sunday though …
