Not the footy – that’s all over for at least three weeks

Portsmouth and Portsmouth-area cricket teams enjoyed a GREAT weekend in the Southern and Hampshire leagues.

As usual, the top team isn’t from Hampshire, but South Wilts (Salisbury) aren’t the only side to have won two from two. The ‘foreigners’ stuffed the Academy by eight wickets with eight overs to spare* but Havant, including Hampshire’s real one-match wonder, Richard Hindley, have also won the first two (Bashley on Saturday), Portsmouth in the league below beat Rowledge and like Portsmouth & Southsea (beating Burridge II) have two from two. There were victories too for Waterlooville, Gosport and Hambledon.

Elsewhere Lee Savident top-scored for Burridge who beat Alton and Mitchell Stokes contributed 27 and 3-42 as St Cross beat Ventnor. Rod Bransgrove’s ‘little boy’ Jack opened the bowling with Stokes.
