Not my words, Bumble’s during the first over at Headingley. Last week the Yorkshire Chairman was suggesting that Ashes Tests should be reserved for the ‘traditional’ grounds. I’m not sure whether he’s talking to Sheffield United but I would have thought that one useful criterion would be people turning up to watch. That’s not the case yet today and some who are there are dressed and drinking already in ways that suggest they won’t actually see much – on the other hand it’s good to see school kids there, although I hope it’s not construed as a term-time holiday.

Meanwhile Weatherley and Alsop are batting v MCC Youngsters in the one-day game and the weather seems ok (I’m mindful that some of our bloggers are away from Hampshire and even overseas).

Weatherley out for fifty-odd but Alsop has another 100. Will it be enough to get him in on Sunday?
