Brian (see below) has sent me more, including this which I’ve never seen before. It is the JS White’s ground and his caption has it as 1956 in which case , given the size of the crowds, the number of cars and the marquees it must be Hampshire’s first Championship match at Cowes (there were two in Newport, 1938 & 1939).

This is almost exactly 60 years ago: 26-29 May 1956

Hants 370-7 dec drew with Worcs 196 & (following on) 305-8. Worcs recovered from 77-4

Ingleby-Mackenzie 130*, Henry Horton 93, Shackleton 7-103 in the match. For Worcs, Outschoorn 154*, Martin Horton 70. David Blake kept wicket for Hampshire.
