One of those days

At 10.30 am Chris Read ran off to get changed into whites and apologised for not signing autographs as he had to go out for the toss. Oh yeah? OK Notts you’ve got Jake Ball for two days and you can bat if you like. So Read and Smith met and watched by the umpires and the other bloke (pitch inspector?) they exchanged teams and as everyone knew days ago, they came back in without any interaction involving a coin.

IMG_4858For the first time, the BBC commentaries were from the Hotel Media Centre, with the Radio here in the ‘Gantry’. In the distance standing is Peter Jones, author and historian who came in to talk about Abercrombie and the battle of Jutland. Beyond Peter are Dave Bracegirdle from Notts and KDJ and in the foreground, the Sky TV gear. There are windows, but some open to give a very clear view:

When they came off again just after 5pm Kevan was happy for me to drive home through soaking West/Hedge End and the M27 – until of course I reached once again the dry roads and streets of Fareham and Pompey. Not a drop of rain all day here!

Then I discovered they had re-emerged and started playing again. This is turning into an irritating season! Still I had a good day flogging the books again, so once more, many thanks. This year has already paid for the new Women’s Cricket display and I was able to show it to a couple of the Vipers who were around for a training session…

PS There was a rumour that Shahid Afridi was injured. Well he has certainly arrived. As I came out of the hotel this evening he was just arriving – met by Reece Topley and Chris Wood and looking very cheerful and not at all wounded.
