At the end of the season in which Gloucs won the epic B&H SF we went to the last day of the final Championship match at Bristol. A determined Hants won relatively easily and denied the home side the title, for whom I think, the wait continues(??).

A good day at the cricket in the sunshine!

Absolutely right – very close first innings but then Hampshire won easily. If you accept that the Championship began in 1890 (and not everyone does) then Gloucs have never been Champions – go back further as someone as eminent as Peter Wynee-Thomas does and they did win it in the days of Grace’s dominance.

There must have been a bigger crowd back then than there is today – as the Gloucs commentator said, it’s “paltry”.

The weather looks gloomy in Bristol. We’ve had bright sun in Pompey (but windy) since about 11am. No news on CricHQ still about the 2ndXI – perhaps weathered-off again.
