That’s the not out batsmen who will remain not out for the time being because it’s wet in Birmingham. In my experience it usually is. I take a somewhat metaphysical view that the further places are from the ocean the more they need rain to remind them of that key element. Here I sit, looking out of my window with Portsmouth Harbour just down the road and no sign of rain …

At 12.20: Surrey 199, Hants 222-5, Dearden out for 10. Duggan scored 81 and Goodwin is 62*

New item just seen on our website says that Gavin Griffiths currently playing in the Second XI v Surrey is on loan from Lancashire but only for Second XI duties…

This is our 10th first class match this season and all of them have been rain affected.

At least the players should feel well-rested at season’s end – perhaps there will be marginally less pressure to further trim the Championship fixture list.
