Occasionally I get lucky. Up in the gantry, on commentary duty, I was waiting to snap Sibley’s hundred but he didn’t quite get there did he? Bowled by Gareth Berg for 99 – one of the highlights on a tough day:

But Surrey didn’t quite get away despite a strong start – Berg, and the youngsters Wheal and Crane, all bowled well

Agree, those three bowled well and Wheal deserved at least one wicket – but we let them get away in the morning with some slack bowling.

Great photo……timing is everything!

I thought Berg was magnificent very well supported by Crane and Wheal also toiled well but basically we are trying to win matches with a bowling attack consisting of (in cricketing terms) three pensioners and two kids and in all honesty it’s not going to work is it?

I would have played Tino in the (probably unlikely) hope he would have a good day because he does have the pace to trouble the best batsman.

Now we have to bat well to get a draw and our tail starts at six doesn’t it?

Tail starting at 6? bit harse since McLaren is 2nd in the county championship batting averages, 2nd to Wheater. I do agree it starts at 7 assuming McLaren is batting at 6.

A little harsh maybe but McLaren is really a good 8 at best isn’t he?

And I agree with Dave that McManus is a capable batsman but so far in the Championship he has performed like a tail-ender. Hopefully this game will see that change.

Comment by James

McManus is a very capable batsman but he is due some runs in the Championship, while Berg has played some fine innings – not least that 90-odd at Hove last year. The batting, minus Carberry, Vince and Dawson does not look particularly strong, but who knows …

99 – run out going for the second to make the ton: understandably not trusting Jackson Bird to hang around for long

Comment by Ageas

Very true Dave. Maybe I was being a bit harse too.

What a great movie soundtrack that was!
