Just that really …

Meanwhile 13 men named for tomorrow: Adams, Alsop, Smith*, Weatherley, Wheater, Dawson, Berg, McManus, McLaren, Andrew, Best, Crane, Wheal.

Apparently Griffiths is staying to the end of the season when they’ll make a decision but he only plays in white ball cricket so does that mean only 2nd XI? And if this squad is right, where is Carter?

Cheers John – Essex 268-4 mid-afternoon, after Carter had two early wickets (14-2: Carter 2-64, Griffiths 2-70, ‘Tommo’ also playing)

Sorry! Stuck that on before spotting your addition. Thanks

Update on the update from John, Hants 55-4. Only one day to go but draw the best hope. Griffiths got a third wicket and Brad Taylor one.

Did feel like that didn’t it?…………

Sadly yes. Even caught in the same place again.

Even I am struggling to put a positive spin on this one………

Almost exactly six years ago I spent the best part of a week in Scarborough where I saw James bat for almost four-and-a-half hours in making 180. The locals – not given to cheap praise – thought that this 19-year-old was absolutely the business and it was difficult to disagree; he was terrific. Obviously he’s had his moments since then in first-class cricket, notably and most consistently in that year we won promotion from the 2nd Division (2014). But he has not, yet at least, gone on to fulfil the considerable promise of that day, when he shared a Hampshire record partnership with Jimmy Adams. Sadly, one could say that even more of two of his team-mates in that match, Bates and Briggs.

Interestingly however, Liam Dawson was on that trip and right grumpy back then to be 12th Man. Today he has been confirmed as topping the PCA’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ table which gets him onto that UAE trip next March – also in the eight who are great: Matt Coles! Well done Liam

Vince’s championship batting average since the start of last season is 30.84. Not really international standard I’m afraid and rather a long time for a dip in form.

If he didn’t have an attractive cover drive would he ever have been selected?

Sean Terry back with Northants today, but out for just six (batting at no. 3)
