Over the course of 2016 in Div One, on the nine teams’ main grounds* a wicket has fallen on average every 10.49 overs in the 41 completed matches to date.

In the two matches still playing; at Lord’s (Middx v Surrey) after day three, a wicket has fallen every 10.88 overs – in line with the overall average but actually more frequently than previously at Lord’s. At the Ageas Bowl v Lancashire by contrast, after day three, a wicket has only fallen every 28.6 overs.

PS This figure of 28.6 might reduce today of course. Of all those completed matches, the slowest wicket-taking match in Div One this season to date is Middx v Lancs at Lord’s where the figure was 15 wickets in 2567 overs at 17.13 overs per wicket.

*I’ve excluded ‘one-off’ matches on outgrounds – too many possible variables for averages. However the four matches on outgrounds have seen wickets falling between 11.5 & 8.87 overs, i.e. in line with the main average.
