But couldn’t quite swing it.

He finally got a game and took some stick, but did manage two wickets – and the top scorers at that. It wasn’t enough to prevent a Pakistan victory (although England remain unbeaten in England). Now he will return to the Hampshire side at the Oval.

Although it might depend on the pitch. Maybe Smith?

Apparently Liam’s 70 runs the most expensive by an England ODI debutant

A very un-necessary & misleading tweet by TMS (whom I normally respect)

.@daws128 figures of 2 for 70 from 8 overs are the worst on ODI debut for @englandcricket #bbccricket #ENGvPAK

Suggests that all other debutants have taken two or more wickets……think they should have clarified economy rate?!

Better still not have tweeted it at all……..

I think clarification is right Jo and the use of “worst” is poor, but what if they’d been the ‘best’? The problem with stats and records in cricket is that they’re either all available or we don’t have any …

The LBW appeal he had early in his second over was “Out”, but as the Ump failed to give it, and it would have only showed up as “Ump call” despite squarely hitting the leg stump, Liam exhibited extraordinarily good judgement not reviewing it!

F.E.C?!

Andrew Flintoff 7-0- 62-1 (8.86 per over)
Liam Dawson 8-0-70-2 (8.75)

AF was playing (1999) pre the t20 era; the staff writer seems to have been struggling a bit at the end of this match. Still if he is mentioned in the same breath as ‘Freddie’ he is in good company.
