From The Cricketer October 2016

The magazine has identified the Top Ten for: Best Bowling, Most Economical Bowling, Most Incisive Bowling, Best Averages (Bat & Bowl), Fastest Scorers, Highest Scores, and Leading All-Rounders. Hampshire have one player among those eighty: Ryan McLaren who is fourth in the All Rounders list. In addition, from 40 best ‘white-ball’ players, Shahid Afridi’s strike rate placed him 9th in the T20 list and Liam Dawson was 5th in the 50 overs batting averages.

They also identified the Five Major Risers and Five Major Fallers, with Sean Ervine in the former list as a batsman. He more than doubled his aggregate from 2015 to 2016.

In Division One, Nottinghamshire (2.03) averaged the most team changes per match, followed by Yorkshire (1.87) and Hampshire (1.80)

Hampshire’s overall strike rate of 3.12 was second slowest among all 18 counties to Lancashire (3.0). In Division One, only Surrey (3.58) conceded more rapidly than Hampshire’s 3.53. Worcestershire were highest overall at 3.63.

The magazine calculated “Mitigating Factors” of unavoidable absence (injury, international selection) and rain. Hampshire were the highest in the former with an average of 4.22 absentees. Next worst hit were Yorkshire 3.44 and Nottinghamshire 3.19. However, they also calculated that Hampshire and Nottinghamshire were the only two of 18 counties to benefit from rain by losing fewer points (eg avoiding defeat).
