One of the saddest days in Hampshire’s cricketing history – Jimmy, another of the Champions has also died. Again, a full obituary will follow

Interesting to see that on this sad day I opened the hampshire cricket web site to be greeted with a full page advertising “A firework party” with no mention of the passing of these great players even on the cricket page. Commercialism at its best !

It was Tim Tremlett who informed me and asked if I might help with the obits. I guess I’m still best placed to do them (perhaps with Alan Edwards?) and although I’ve retired officially, I’m happy to help with such things, those guys were very special to me. I have sent the pieces with photos to Hampshire and already had a kind thank you from Rod B, so I hope they will be there soon – plus for those of you with access, in the Echo.

Both pieces are now on the official site and are a welcome tribute.

I never had the pleasure of seeing either play but certainly their names are very familiar to me.

Although obviously a sad time it is comforting to know that both Jimmy and Vic lived such long lives and touched so many people.
