Hampshire Cricket History

I’ve just returned from All Saints Church, Mudeford and the Service of Celebration for Leo’s life (the private funeral was last Friday).

There was a good attendance of family, former player, club Vice Presidents and others – including ‘young’ Julian Shackleton and the two other ‘youngsters, the sons of Leo’s great pal, John Arlott. Hampshire Cricket was represented by Rod Bransgrove. Among the former players, Bryan Timms read a tribute to his “friend and mentor” and others included Alan Rayment, Denis Baldry, Derek Tulk, Alan Castell, Keith Wheatley, and Barry Reed.

I didn’t speak with Rod but I heard from a fairly good source that Hampshire have secured a couple of good signings, but no names will be released until next spring. I know no more, honestly.

Thanks for the report back Dave. Always appreciated.

Suggestion that there will be an announcement at 8am tomorrow of a signing!

Interesting quiz question from today’s obituary in the Telegraph – which Hampshire cricketer played for Brazil?

Comment by Stephen Saunders

I’m guessing it was Leo who once coached in Argentina I think, but is that right? And for Brazil at cricket or …?
