Ian’s comment alerted me to the call up for Liam. It wasn’t in the news earlier. Well done Liam, and good luck, although I’ll be surprised if he plays unless it’s to strengthen the batting (replacing say Batty).

Very pleased for Liam obviously but rather surprising to see him called up to replace Ansari.

However as Ansari is a decent enough county batsman who looks a considerable distance from a Test spinner I suppose the selectors are being totally consistent in replacing like with like!

I gather Ansari is injured. We’ll have to hope that Liam can learn something about spin bowling while in India but in comparison with almost any previous period up to Swann and Monty it’s hard to see him as a Test Match spinner (it’s not easy with Ansari, Batty or even Ali at times)

Indeed. However I suspect Liam would have learnt much more staying in Bangladesh playing against spin rather than sitting on the sidelines in India watching it and only facing our spinners in the nets.

However at least the ECB should save some money on travel expenses!

Tom Alsop made his debut for England Lions yesterday. Made 24 in an 8-wicket win.

Cheers Bob, keep it coming!

Tom (11) not so good today. They’ll still win, though . . .
