Is batting at number 4 today for the Lions in a first-class game. They’ve dismissed the Sri Lankan President’s XI at tea

Latest score etc: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/1080253.html

Is it officially “first class”? With 15 players per side it wouldn’t meet the ICC definition (from Wikipedia), although it seems the Sri Lankan board is free to define the status of matches played there.

Probably not then – well spotted – I suppose I was really just distinguishing it from ‘white ball’ … Actually let’s decide when we see how well Tom does!!

Definitely not first class – Tom made 13!

Comment by James

Definitely not – and he batted at number five, although equal top score of the first four dismissed …

This will be good for Tom as he looked very uncomfortable against good spin last season. He needs the exposure to gain experience.

Comment by Ron Griffiths

Tom is not in XI for current game…

Comment by John Cottrell

What’s happening John is that Andy Flower is playing all 15 players so he’s batted but may not be fielding. There’s one day to go and I guess he might bat a second time.

I think this is a trick England’s Test team missed in India. Had we played 15 against their 11 we might have done a little better!

Match stopped after 37.1 overs as a Draw. Rain? Tom only got 6.

And sadly the only batsman not to get some kind of score in either innings. Incidentally, after some years of providing players, I don’t think there are any Hants reps in England Under 19s?

Tom not in side today . . .
