Surely it’s time now to abandon the anachronism that is¬†county cricket, and create about 8/10 regions for all domestic cricket?

Pretty depressing to be honest. I can understand the need to change or County Cricket might die but with this proposal surely it hastens that death!

Will turkeys vote for Christmas? Goodbye county cricket and all that it represents. The winter that cricket finally lost its soul.

This is so sad isn’t it? My first comment is of course tongue-in-cheek but very rapidly I’ve looked around and lost all optimism

Will a Hampshire XI return to Burnaby Road in 2020?

With the established audiences watching the Test/established competitions, who will be in the grounds watching particularly with the big kick-off midway through the schedule?

That’s an interesting thought Stephen. Basingstoke’s proposal to build a ¬£1.5 million pavilion in the hope of getting Hampshire back, may not be just wishful thinking. If the ‘Bowl is taken over for the Big Bash, then proper cricket could well return to the out-grounds.

Hampshire County Cricket Club playing championship cricket out of Basingstoke and Hampshire Cricket Plc playing money cricket out of the Ageas Bowl. Sounds good to me.
