2nd XI struggling

I imagine everyone has ways of following a reasonable start for Hampshire at Headingley – meanwhile in the 2nd XI Alsop (45*) and Smith (40) made a good start this morning, but there’s been a flurry of wickets and they are now 107-5, with three victims for Simon Kerrigan.

PS Alsop 50+ not out at lunch and Joe Weatherley made a decent start opening for Kent, but was dismissed for 36. Hampshire have used five bowlers, all right-arm seam/pace.

PPS Hampshire going well after lunch; meanwhile the 2nds are 179-7 and five of those men made 10 between them. Alsop reached 61 but is the home pitch not that easy to bat on this year? Chris Wood is going well now. The game ends today.

Hants 2nd XI all out and Asher Hart, presumably returned from a trip to Leeds (!) is bowling – not Topley (Stevenson at the other end)

Weatherley scored 36 for Kent as opener.

Edwards has taken 3 so far, all bowled. Berg 2 and Abbott has just taken his first of the season 132-6

So, at Headingley I guess it’s the old story – ball old, ball soft, eighth wicket planning a record partnership. It’s funny how a side 100-1 reduced to 250-7 looks like a good effort by the bowlers but the other way around … Maybe we need a leg spinner?
