Pitch & Players

Today of course I bought the (Pompey) News.

It wasn’t for the most part focusing its sports reporting on cricket, but it did offer this from James Vince: “being really close to being able to chase a gettable score on that wicket is an incredible effort” – NB “incredible” (and it’s not a wicket, James, it’s a pitch). Meanwhile, the Guardian described the “pitch” as “dead”.

There are two other stories in the Guardian – the first has Yorkshire’s Andrew Gale expressing disappointment that Bairstow has not been playing for them given that he was (a) cleared to play in the IPL, but not bought and (b) has played just three days of cricket in 2017; the second story says Fidel Edwards will be out of action for weeks (nothing new there then), adding that Mason Crane and Tom Alsop “are waiting (with varying degrees of patience)”, and Reece Topley is now fit.

Bairstow and Root are available for Friday.

(And I’m available on Saturday – my first look of 2017)
