Hampshire Cricket History

Struggling Stars

England discards Vince and Ballance have impressed in this match – Ballance has by the close of Day Three scored 41.5% of Yorkshire’s runs against Hampshire in 2017 (361 of 869) and he’s not finished

But the England batsmen haven’t done so well. In Div One  in current matches, Cook scored 14, Hameed 0 & 7, Root 8 & 2, and Bairstow 7. Things went a bit better in Div Two with Moeen’s 50, although followed by a duck, and Jennings’ 87 – but Gloucs aren’t quite the Aussies.

Meanwhile (from a distance) the Yorkshire second innings seemed to fit the pattern of the pitches, rather more than their first go. Hampshire need seven wickets tomorrow in, I guess, about 60 overs or fewer, but they only took seven all day today – the seventh with 5 overs to go.

This year wickets have fallen on each day at the Ageas Bowl as follows:

Middx Day One: 6 wkts; Two: 8 wkts; Three: 10 wkts; Four: 5 wkts

Yorks Day One: 4 wkts; Two: 12 wkts; Three: 7 wkts

I’m sorry to report that the BBC’s weather forecast is suggesting some rain around tomorrow afternoon (3/4 pm)

It’s going to be hard enough to win without the dreaded rain. We’ve had a dry April so far, let’s hope it continues for one more day.
