Hampshire Cricket History

Thanks but no thanks

There aren’t that many Englishmen in the Hampshire squad but none of those that are there have been selected for the England squads for the Champions Trophy or the match v Ireland. I guess Liam Dawson will be most disappointed. His early season form has been unremarkable, but that’s not in 50 overs matches.

Meanwhile thanks for the 2nd XI updates. Another century for Will Smith who can do little more, but can’t have much chance of getting in the first XI.

Will Smith has two wickets now, so too Aussie Holland but none for the three English prospects Crane, McCoy and Hart. I’m not sure if Brad Taylor is even playing …?

No he’s not. Second top-score (26) was keeper Dickinson from Fratton – no, no, sorry – South Africa.

Hampshire won by 17 runs – Holland took four cheap wickets and Hart one very expensive one (10 overs for 71). In terms of a team for Canterbury on Thursday, Will Smith is the only eligible player who made a case for himself today.

Like your quip about Dickinson! Alas, not Jimmy, although he was a useful cricketer and an even better tennis player – county standard. They don’t make all-rounders like him these days -more’s the pity.
