That’s my number (almost Toots & the Maytals)

It’s 54 years to the week since the old, original knock-out cup started in 1963 (1 May at Old Trafford), which means that tomorrow we begin the 55th season – albeit much changed and no longer the competition that excites everybody or attracts the kind of criticism now reserved for the 20:20 in 2020

Looking at yesterday’s 2nd XI side, I wonder whether Stevenson and Taylor are in the squad for Canterbury (and whether Mason Crane is the new Danny Briggs)?

Taylor is injured (hamstring, I think they said). I didn’t ask about Stevenson, but as Wheal is injured, perhaps he’s covering for him.

Cheers Bob. Another Hampshire man down!

If Crane is the new Briggs is Taylor the new Tremlett?

Well the squad is fascinating. It appears Will Smith has done enough, there’s a Dutchman following in the footsteps of PJ Bakker. Asher Hart and Mason Crane are in the 13 and so too, Topley (debut?) and Wood. There’s no place for Abbott or Berg and while Edwards and Rossouw are reported injured, Wheal isn’t, but is not included

I wonder whether we should assume Stevenson is also injured?

Actually I need to stop being too tongue-in-cheek about the origins of Hampshire’s players. The ‘Dutchman’ (Holland) is actually an Aussie – I didn’t realise he was eligible – and it’s true that Dickinson moved to the UK about 10 years ago – although I thought he came from Oxford, not IOW (?)

Wheal IS injured (side strain) unless he’s recovered since Monday. I would think that Smith and Holland will be the two to miss out from the 13 . . .

I suspect Wheal is still injured but he was not mentioned as such in the official release. If you’re right, Hart will make his List A debut for us

Holland in (no Hart).
