Four born overseas, two signed from other counties and not one Hampshire-born player

UPDATES: In the game at Hove, Adam Hose from the IOW (ex-Hants 2s) scored 76 in a partnership of 151 with Elgar. Danny Briggs’ took 1-59 in his ten overs (Hildreth). Wheater no doubt irritated his former team-mates. No game for Kent, so no Rouse or Coles. (4.30) Benny Howell 3-40 v Middx and now batting to save the game.

Essex have a home grown chap called Wheater playing!

After weeks of dry weather, it’s pouring in Pompey and I believe on its way towards London and the east. Whether it will arrive during play I’ve no idea (Bank Holiday!)

Rain reaches Hove in the innings break.

Elgar century at Hove and Wagner makes a devastating start. Hampshire need to be more composed perhaps?

5 players in the team who have come through the academy however.

Not bad hey?

Indeed not bad Jim. But it’s not great that we cannot find anyone from within a county the size of Hampshire. I haven’t checked, but I wonder if it’s true of any other side today. Essex have two locals, plus another two from nearby in London

To be fair London is quite a big place to be able to choose from!

It is gutting.
