The clubs start their league season tomorrow and with Mrs A off to London for the weekend, I thought I might watch a bit of a league game.

I checked up on Portsmouth – for whom our 2nd XI’s Fraser Hay is playing – but they’re away at Liphook & Risley. Next up Portsmouth & Southsea but they’re away at Sarisbury 2nds. So I looked up my closest lot, US Portsmouth who play at my beloved Burnaby Road. But they’re away at Rowledge.

So if I go anywhere, I guess it will be Havant Park – I can catch the train – where the Southern League Champions start defending against Alton, with a very interesting side. They still have our 2003 hero Richard Hindley playing, so too Chris Morgan who had a year on the Hampshire staff, plus the ‘loan’ of a third spinner from Hampshire, Brad, Taylor, and his current 2nd XI team-mate, Josh McCoy, who is a local lad.

If you have any news about club sides in other bits of the county, add a comment please.

PS The ODI’s been a thriller! Meanwhile Adam Rouse hit the last ball for four to take Kent to 331-7. If they win that (v Sussex), Hampshire will be at the foot of their 50 overs table tonight.

Portsmouth and Southsea 2’s are on the Island, Dave, at the St James Hospital ground. If you’re going to start supporting the Southern/Hampshire Leagues then the Yellow Book will come in handy 😉

Hi Dave… you gladdened my soul to read that you will be spectating club cricket this week-end!. Back to all our roots, to our youth in any sport…I just hope – and even pray – that you witness a competitive match played in ‘the spirit of the game’ and that both teams enjoy a pint and good banter in the bar whatever the result. Cricket is A GAME to be ENJOYED!!
Happy days, Punchy.

I’m sitting in Havant Park (tea interval) and feeling deeply ashamed of my rogue apostrophe in the first line! Many apologies. Havant 214 v Alton, Academy just short of 300 for three v New Milton. (I’ve now corrected it)
