D Day and beyond

6th June – and the anniversary of Billy Taylor (Sussex) bowling to Jimmy Adams in a 2nd XI game in 2000 – the first match played at the Rose Bowl.

Over the next fortnight there is only the four-day friendly v South Africa ‘A’. This revised approach to the Blog seems to be working well enough, but I shall maintain my ‘vows’ of silence (with respect to opinions) and abstinence, so this might be it for the next two weeks unless something very remarkable happens in the friendly.

If you wish to post thoughts or information (eg team news, 2nd XI etc) this is therefore the location, until Old Trafford in two weeks.

For players that have taken a minimum of 50 County Championship wickets, Kyle Abbott now lies 2nd in the averages behind Andy Roberts. In all first class he is 4th (71 @17.35) behind Ridley (68 @ 13.26), Southerton (63 @ 14.15) and Roberts (244 @ 16.70).

Great stats Tigger!

Great stats indeed – and Abbott the only one playing on covered (batsmen-friendly) pitches and almost wholly on counties’ main (b-f) grounds.

Hampshire squad for South Africa A starting tomorrow afternoon

(from): Will Smith, Tom Alsop, Ian Holland, George Bailey (c), Calvin Dickinson (w), Brad Taylor, Asher Hart, Chris Wood, Brad Wheal, Mason Crane, Matt Salisbury, Fraser Hay.

Comment by Ron Griffiths

Thank you Ron. Aussie Fraser Hay is in his second year as the overseas professional at Portsmouth CC, and has played regularly for the 2nd XI. Bob will be enjoying all the additional names on the Players’ Board this year!

Comment by pompeypop

. . and Calvin Dickinson is another South African!

Comment by Bob Elliott

So, 2 more numbers on the Board, Dickinson certainly, and Hay possibly.

Comment by Bob Elliott

Ryan Stevenson has been added to the squad.

Does anyone know what the regulations are governing hours of play, intervals, number of overs etc. for this match? The relevant link on the ECB website won’t open.

Comment by Ian White

Hours of play (local time) 14.00 start, Tea 16.00-16.20, Dinner 18.20-19.00, Close 21.00 according to Cricinfo

Comment by Ron Griffiths

Thanks Ron.

I wonder why there is no sign of Reece Topley … ???

Comment by pompeypop

Probably being rested by order of the ECB!
