50 years ago this weekend, the great soul singer Otis Redding went down a storm at Monterey

This week, Hampshire’s recent recruit Chris Sole was one of the wicket-takers in Scotland’s historic victory over Zimbabwe (not Bangladesh …):

(His wicket – a certain Mr Ervine)

Meanwhile Hampshire’s record is under threat tonight

Their chase, winning with 359-8 at the Oval on their way to the Trophy in 2005, is the highest ever in English domestic cricket. But Notts might beat it tonight at Chelmsford.

PS Indeed they did, with three balls to spare, winning with 373-5

Sorry Dave but Scotland beat Zimbabwe….not Bangladesh

No Brad Wheal for Scotland…..

Comment by John Cottrell

Woops – not concentrating. Cheers John. I remember now – Bangladesh were in England! I’ll change it (maybe Wheal still not quite fully fit?)

Comment by pompeypop

Wheal is fit and in the squad for Monday. Brad Taylor in but no Edwards yet!

Hampshire (from): Carberry, Adams, Rossouw, Vince, Bailey (c), Ervine, McManus, Berg, Abbott, Salisbury, Taylor, Holland, Wheal.

Comment by Ron Griffiths

Thanks Ron. I suspect the first nine (up to & inc Abbott) are certainties – is it two from the last four, perhaps depending on the pitch they find?

I heard Giles White on Radio Solent a few weeks ago say Edwards now has to prove his fitness in a 2nd XI Championship match.

Comment by Ian White

That’s good to hear. We have had far too many seam bowlers breaking down during games this season with Fidel leading the way. I just hope he plays a full 2nd XI game bowling and fielding in both innings and doesn’t just appear bowl a few overs and be replaced.

Comment by James

Fidel appears to be playing for Lashings tomorrow 🤔

Confirmation of squad from Daily Echo http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/cricket/hampshire_cricket/15353724.CRICKET__Taylor_recalled_after_three_year_Championship_absence/?ref=mac

Nothing in the Cricket News section on the official website of course.

I rather like the idea that this REVISED Blog, run by a bloke who has no opinions, can now be the most comprehensive, up-to-date information source – BUT in order for that to work well, it’s got to be a collective enterprise – with people keeping a careful watch on my mistakes!

Is there a Beefy’s update?

Comment by Paul

Oi cheeky!

Comment by pompeypop

The openers are Rabbit and Trout (Hampshire born!).

Zimbabwe got their revenge v Scotland, winning today by six wickets, but of the four that fell, Chris Sole took 3-36

I’ve been out this afternoon, singing in the sunshine but saw a bit of the semi final before and a bit more afterwards. Worcs have been hammered by Surrey which means that three of this week’s four 50-over semi-finals have been very one-sided. Also, in perfect weather on a Saturday and at Worcester, who have not reached a semi final in over a decade the report was that the ground was not full, with about 3,000 tickets sold. Is all that a bit worrying for the longer List A game?

Just in case anyone missed it, interesting to see Danny Briggs 125 not out in Sussex’s innings win over South Africa A this week at Arundel.

Comment by Peter Jeffs

Yes indeed a great innings by Danny (120* though).

The Academy got spanked by Lymington yesterday by 203 runs. Academy scored just 81 all out with two players reaching 22….Charlie Freeston batted at ten for a 0…..

Calvin Dickson got 65 for Lymington.

Comment by John Cottrell

….or even Dickinson! — and what nobody has yet mentioned, the Sussex versus SA “A” game was played at the “Picture-perfect” ground of the Friends of Arundel Castle CC!!!

Comment by John West

My error this time John…slapped wrist..

Comment by John Cottrell

I did mention it John because I said I might go. There again, I didn’t … Still I have the Championship match there in July in my diary. Did you go?
