I know people who say it works (note the opponents …)

Alsop

(531 is the time not Surrey’s score!)

I promise you this is absolutely the truth – I’m in the process of contacting an academic at the University of Liverpool and I discovered just minutes ago that she is a Professor and her ‘Chair’, named after the sponsors, is the ‘James & Constance ALSOP Chair in Music”.

Interesting to see Adam Hose (IOW) batting well again. There have been a couple of low scores but in his first three Championship matches for Somerset he’s made 68 (on debut), 48 last week, and today so far 62*. Not good enough for Hampshire though.

I think that that is an opinion, Dave. Mind you, one that I wholeheartedly agree with. Keep on opining!

That did out come out as I intended. Hose for Rossouw – a swap I would make any day.

Yes John you’re right – I’ve been full of opinions again but I’m so furious I switched off the radio commentary, let alone going. Had I been there I’d be shouting things!

On the other hand I am delighted for James, and, in particular, Jimmy . You might remember that at the start of the season he played the first two games (140 runs in four innings) but was dropped when Bailey arrived. In his four matches back, he now has two centuries – which is better than some …

‘Interesting’ day at Cheltenham – days total score, 312-25. Incidentally, during my earlier ranting I hadn’t spotted the inexperience of the Surrey attack.

Hants batting well and Surrey rather subdued, after the floodlights a pleasant evening with the Oval bathed in sunshine.

Could easily be another century maker tomorrow.

Selection is difficult as you need to play 5 proper bowlers in these 4 day matches. We could have dropped Slug for Alsop, if we didn’t want to bite the bullet with Rossouw.
No doubt Rossouw will come into his own inT20 and all is forgiven 😉
600+ tomorrow please, and then really fancy our chances with this bowling attack.

But why wouldn’t we bite that bullet Nick? Does he have a contract guaranteeing a first team place (unheard of)?
Incidentally your observation about Ervine (accurate in my view) confirms that he is no longer an all-rounder – in two-and-a-half seasons back in Div One he has taken 15 first-class wickets.
