2nd XI

Thanks to Bob for alerting us that “The 2nd’s are at Newclose today. Sussex batting, 48-2”

Update: 67-4 – the largely forgotten (?) Asher Hart has three wickets and Wheal one. Salisbury has also bowled, Smith and Alsop have catches. I don’t know the other six yet.

Later: Sussex 93 all out, three wickets each for Wheal, Hart and Brad Taylor (3-4 plus a run out). Hants (Smith & Alsop) 39-0. Dickinson is the ‘keeper; three more to name.

4.30 Hampshire’s turn to collapse: 109-5, and the top five all gone for under 30. Not doing Newclose’s chances of a first team match any good perhaps?

6.30 Hampshire 181-7, Duggan is 27*. Only a guy called Rawlins for Sussex has passed 30 today (32)

Incidentally the Academy had a good league victory on Saturday with a bloke called Unsure (no initials) scoring a century. Felix Organ hit 80-odd, and Chris Sole took five wickets. Info from Southern League website

Thanks to Vimps’ report, ‘Unsure’ was . . .

Little George Metzger made an astonishing debut-making century as the Hampshire Academy thrashed New Milton by 164 runs at Fernhill to avenge an opening day of the season defeat.
Hampshire’s Under-15 wicketkeeper, Metzger, is little over 5’ tall. He normally plays for Basingstoke & North Hants, but turned out for the Academy as he was unable to play against Ventnor on the Isle of Wight.

Brad Taylor and J Lintott now also get a mention. J Lintott is new to me.

We had a Jacob Lintott playing for our 2nd XI last season so presumably the same chap:

Haven’t you got this year’s Second Eleven Annual yet, Bob? Jacob Lintott, b Taunton 22/4/93: Somerset 2010;Warwicks 2013; Hants 2016. Seems to be one of many who are searching for a County.

Comment by John West

PS. For those who have not heard of it, the First-Class Counties Second Eleven Annual is a wealth of knowledge about the County 2nds in the previous year, and is available from the ACS on-line.

Comment by John West

Seven years of searching too. Guess there’s no one suitable in Portsmouth or … (no, stop, been there before)

Comment by pompeypop

But Jacob is wearing a Clevedon CC shirt and darker trousers than everyone else….now 121-6 at tea….

Comment by John Cottrell

No Chris Wood today. I note he’s in the T20 squad but will he play on Weds? The forecast for tomorrow is lousy.

Comment by pompeypop

It’s 7.35 and they are STILL PLAYING! I think they play 106 over a day, but it’s still late . . .

Comment by Bob Elliott

Close of Play: Sussex 93 & 27-0, Hampshire 202 (Duggan 30, Smith 29, Hart 21* to follow his three wickets)

Comment by pompeypop

Today’s deliberate mistake. (Hope you noticed)
Of course it is KolvpaK
