Cracked It

Almost

Tigger has discovered that Cricinfo is now reporting James Vince as having played 100 T20 games for Hampshire (including last Friday) – that’s in line with every other source I know

Cricinfo is still reporting 123 games in total and Cricket Archive 122 but the discrepancy is an England-related match

Cricket Archive has

England 5 matches
England Lions 6
England XI 1
Cricinfo has
England 6
Lions 7
I’ll have a look later, but it’s not so crucial (on here) is it?

Even more info

James played for an England XI v South Africa A in Paarl on 17 February 2016. Cricinfo list that as an England game but it’s different from a T20I. That’s that difference sorted

Cricinfo show James playing for England Lions v UAE in Dubai on 4 December 2015 but it’s not listed by Cricket Archive – with or without James. I don’t have Wisden handy to check so I’ve emailed them. Is it a real game? Did he play?

Glad to be of service!

I’ve figured it out! They were being kind because James got a duck (although he was captain). The game definitely happened and is missing from Cricket Archive – it’s like ‘Fake News’.

Incidentally Liam Dawson, and Reece Topley also played in that ‘missing’ match.

I can’t check but I suspect the matches played for Dawson and Topley are also different then

“Cricbuzz” refer to it as a “Practise match”.

Thanks James. That could be the final piece of that intriguing little jigsaw!
