2nd XI

There has been some play. Sussex are 175-6 and scoring at 5.6 an over (?). Brad Taylor 3-17 and Ollie Robinson, who once played for Hampshire, reached 42 – but no fifties yet. Sussex effectively 66-6 but the rain has arrived (along with the Devil?).

(3.40) It’s heaving down in Pompey and the forecast suggests it’s in for the day, so I suspect that’s the end for today.

A quick question for those who watch our 2nd XI away from home (and come to think about it at home on the Nursery Ground too) – is it generally a good idea to take your own food, drink and seating or are these generally available?

At home, there’s always Beefy’s!! More seriously, a few seats on the Nursery Ground (pavilion end).

Ah yes Beefy’s. It so easy to forget as it is hardly promoted at all is it?

Take all 3 until you get to know the venue. I have had a very good meal at New Close IOW, and it is sometimes surprising what food is available at club venues.

Indeed I had a very good lunch yesterday at Newclose. Fish, chips and peas delivered to where I sat outside on a tray with salt, pepper, vinegar and tartare sauce….yum yum….

You have to do-it-yourself. There are a few bench seats around the pavilion, but the catering these days is non-existent. For a ‘World-class venue’ the pavilion on the Nursery Ground is, these days, p-poor! I didn’t say so in my book, but it’s probably the worst in the Southern League for visitors (I’ve never seen the dressing-rooms or the showers, but I’ve been told they’re not that good, either!).
Basingstoke, for example, is much better – bar, food, seats, toilets, car-parking – much nicer. Away matches are usually at top Club grounds which nearly always have a bar and kitchen.
