The next Hampshire game is on Thursday, so unless Bob can find another 2nd XI game the focus might shift to Liam Dawson (large, somewhat frustrated pic in today’s Guardian, which comments that he took no wickets, but omits to mention that neither did Wood, Ali or Jennings)

Thank you for the comments (and photos) about last night’s game. It’s sometimes odd making sense of games by bits of commentary and online scores. I’m sorry to hear that McManus missed one or two – there was another stumping chance on Weds at Hove. He’s always seemed to me a decent ‘keeper, but maybe Crane is tough to take? I hope he keeps his place – his deputy is yet another South African!

The Ervine situation seems odd. So far his record in 2017 T20 is six (14 balls) v Glams, DNB v Sussex and out first ball last night, coming in at number eight. Even when other bowlers are getting ‘tap’ they’re not using him (in the last two matches, Topley and Berg have gone at 10 runs-an-over). If Liam was available, would he replace Sean?

Last night’s Echo said Crane will be in the Academy side versus St Cross (with Jimmy?) at the Nursery ground today.

No Jimmy in the St Cross side according to Mike Vimpany’s preview last night. Asher Hart plays for them though.

From Vimps . .

Hampshire Academy 335-4 (C Campbell 80*, Scriven 80, Crane 65, Middleton 38*)
St Cross Symondians 224-6 (Weatherley 86, J Campbell 4-71)
Match drawn.

I would hope Liam replaces Topley or Berg. The innings lost momentum when McManus came in. Even with Sean out of form he is ore likely to find the boundary. He was in a no win situation last night, coming in with only three balls to go. A first ball dismissal was almost inevitable. Also, a third spinner would make our bowling attack even better. One too many pace bowlers at the moment.

Also, does anybody know if Afridi has a contract which says that he won’t bat longer than an over?

And come in before Ervine.

Wood, Ali and Jennings don’t play for the hated Hampshire!

Thanks to Bob for the Academy score – Hoots mon, the Campbells are coming! As for that Crane chap, is he a promising batsman then? It seems he didn’t take many wickets. What about Weatherley? Perhaps we should sign him …
