Jennings gone then – but I couldn’t take my eyes off the flag in the background. It’s the closest anyone from Pompey ever gets to an England Test.

PS: I thought that if Liam batted today, England would be stuffed. Right now (11.45) he might be in before lunch!

Jennings has now played four Tests and after starting with 112, he has scored 99 runs in seven innings. His average is not great at 26.38 but take out the first one and in those seven, it’s just 14.1. He could be replaced (not least by a right hander) but it will only be by someone else who scores in the Championship, which increasingly seems to prove nothing.

When he scored his 112, wasn’t he dropped on 0 if I remember correctly?
