There’s an interview with Surrey’s new non-fielding batsman on the BBC today:

He (born South Africa) says he might even play for South Africa in the 2019 World Cup. Then he he slags off England’s top-order ‘pushers and prodders’ Jennings (born South Africa) and Ballance (born South Africa) suggesting they should be replaced by Jason Roy (born South Africa) and Dawid Malan (born South Africa).

Hang on in there Rilee – it’ll be your turn soon.

By the way, if you’re wondering, during my few years doing ball-by-ball for the BBC I wasn’t paid quite as much as Chris Evans or Gary Lineker (thankfully I did avoid doing it dressed only in my ‘Hawks’ knickers)

If the egotistical delusionist thinks South Africa would have him back he is even more stupid that I thought.

I trust Surrey only paid him half his match fee as he couldn’t be bothered to field.

… and sorry to be a pedant but Ballance was born in Zimbabwe and played for them in the Under 19 World Cup – which is why I have always maintained that he shouldn’t be playing for England. Well that and the fact that he’s no good of course.

But being Joe Root’s best mate apparently overrides all that. The only surprise is that following his injury he wasn’t replaced by Billy Root.
