Here’s the Tigger-link for the Sussex match tonight: not quite the same as the last one as there’s a new record partnership – and of course one more result:

Also, Bob tells us the 2nd XI have two one-dayers v Gloucs today (T20)

2pm It seems CricHQ was delayed. First match:

Hampshire 157-8 (Scriven 42*, Dickinson 39, Organ 21, Adams 4 – neither Smith nor Alsop playing)

Gloucs 109-5 (15 overs – two wickets each for Wheal & Lintott, one for Sole of course)

Hampshire won by 15 runs: Gloucs 142-8, Wheal 3-23, plus late wickets for Holland and Salisbury

3pm: the second game has just started with Gloucs batting

4.20pm: Second match,  Gloucs innings has concluded at 146-8.  Five men bowled four overs each, Lintott took 3-30, Taylor and Salisbury both 2-23, while the openers, Sole (0-39) and Wheal (0-28) failed to trouble the scorers – plus there was a run out from the penultimate ball. Gloucestershire have a bloke called Hammond playing which doesn’t seem quite fair (did you know that Wally Hammond is the only former Portsmouth schoolboy to have played for England?)

5.45: Hampshire need 12 from the last nine balls with six men gone, half of whom (Dickinson, Organ and Sole) scored 25. Ryan Stevenson who’s hardly seen these days, did not play the first game, did not bowl and went for one. Jimmy Adams went all that way for one brief innings – neither he, nor Alsop and Smith (again) are playing.

5.50 Hampshire won by four wickets. Someone called J Garrett was facing, needing six runs from four balls and – as cool as you like – he hit four and four and they won with two balls to spare. Scriven was 33*.

CricHQ shows this. Wrong date, wrong ground. I’m off to the Beefy Bowl, will leave Dave in charge!

With Hants 2nd XI top of the South group in the championship with two matches to go they must stand a good chance of reaching the 4-day final. Unfortunately this coincides with the first team’s home game against Surrey from 5th Sept. Is there any possibility that the 2nd XI final could take place on the Nursery Ground while the main arena was in use, or even elsewhere in Hampshire, or must it be played on a neutral ground?

I don’t know Ian, but I do know that on 6 September many cricketers with experience of 1st and 2nd XI cricket for Hampshire will be around – it’s the former players reunion day

Actually there are two new records from the game at Hove – one partnership on each side
