Hampshire Cricket History

I started this morning (around 8.30) for breakfast with Mrs A, sitting outside the new café in Old Portsmouth’s Round Tower, looking out over across the Solent towards Ryde

It’s a five minute walk from where I live around the Camber, the fishing harbour inside the main harbour mouth:

That’s not a bad bit of the world is it?

Then I walked back past the Cathedral and bought a couple of ‘papers as usual (Dawson not likely to play on Thursday I’m afraid). The Sunday Times had this header:

S Times

Not only did they ignore Southsea/Old Portsmouth but they skipped from a few locations in Sussex (Chichester? Chichester-by-the-sea? Huh?) straight across to Dorset. Not a single hint of anywhere along the whole Hampshire coast.

I’ve always preferred the Observer

If you’re going this afternoon I hope you enjoy yourself. The weather is beautiful at the minute but the forecast isn’t perfect. With the fixtures today, assuming positive finishes everywhere, at least two, possibly three teams below Hampshire will win today, so …

Did the new cafe compare favourably with Mrs when comparing with the Tea Rooms?

Well of course it can’t compare … but the view and fresh air are rather delightful

You took good advantage of the best time of this day for sure. As always it`s raining over at the ground with the game being abandoned and looks like Pompey may even get a splash or two.
