Weather – or not

There have been thoughts this week that, given a dry pitch, Liam Dawson would remain in the England side ahead of South African Malan but the damp weather has led to suggestions in the Times and Guardian that England might have three debutants, with Liam missing out.

Interesting that the Times’ report on last night’s game leads with Adam Hose’s move from Somerset to Warwickshire on a loan deal followed by a three year contract. The headline “Somerset pile on the runs despite exit of young star”. That’s Adam Hose, from the IOW, ex-Hampshire 2nd XI.

Incidentally, my apologies for missing Holland in this week’s 2nd XI match. I see too that on CricHQ Ryan Stevenson is listed, but neither batted nor bowled. I believe there are two T20 games today against Middlesex.

PS Around 10.10 am, teams not officially announced, but they’ve just shown new Test caps being awarded to Malan, Roland-Jones and Westley so I guess Liam won’t play.

Does this mean Dawson will now be available for T20 at Bristol tomorrow night?

In theory I suppose, but how can they pick him? The only home players are captain and wicketkeeper and he can’t do either of those jobs!
