Hampshire Cricket History

The Good, the Bad and the (Very) Ugly

Half-time verdict:

Hampshire’s bowling was pretty good

Middlesex’s batting was pretty bad (Rob Key: “poor”)

The innings was perhaps the ugliest throughout that I’ve ever seen from a side of first-class cricketers in a competitive match. There was scarcely one moment that even hinted at elegance. There was also a classic moment of ugly ineptitude when a Middlesex batsman chopped the ball from Abbott vertically into the batting crease, McManus was utterly bewildered and they ran two!

Rossouw 50 wow

Barber getting rave reviews very quick

Very good victory, weak Middx side but a horrid ‘match’. All the pro/ex pro commentators on Sky were very positive about Barber who was not flattered by decent figures. I’ve seen very little of Rossouw but he’s odd. Sometimes he hits the ball ferociously (timing and power) but he seems predominantly leg-side (?) and not over subtle. Is that fair?

Spot on for me

Re Rossouw seems fair based on tonight’s showing. A confidence boost for Hants but a depleted Middx to the point of Eoin Morgan not knowing who all their replacements were at the coin toss.

Someone let the Lord’s fox out which added to the entertainment. Match not great, but Lord’s under lights with a large crowd is a good show.

Ah, perfect for some then. Maybe they’ll meet in the Final – that’ll be difficult …
