It’s the title of one of those influential books in my life – written by John Arlott, although he never went to anything like I might today (will it be dry?)

Meanwhile at the Ageas Bowl Hampshire v Glamorgan – here’s the Tigger link:

Or alternatively, thanks to the Radio Times for listing Hampshire v Gloucestershire

All preceded by them Vipers, live and on telly

Hampshire won toss and field v Yorks. Starting on time. Jimmy Adams and Will Smith are polaying plus Hay, Holland, F Organ, Scrivener, Sole, Hart, Lintott, Salisbury and Wheal. Wilfred Rhodes seems to be in the Yorks team.

Comment by Dave Allen

CricHQ tells me Unsure has just got one off Brad Wheal, and it is now 12-0 off 2.1. It’s been like that for half an hour. Perhaps I shouldn’t be so tight and pay for the full version . . .

Comment by Bob Elliott

VERY IMPRESSIVE performance in the field by Hampshire. Yorkshire did not survive 20 overs and are all out for 100. Wickets shared around by the five bowlers (plus run outs). Fraser Hay is the ’emergency’ wicketkeeper

Comment by Dave Allen

Hants 9-0 after one oveR – FIRST SIX ALREADY BY FRASER HAY

Comment by Dave Allen

Two overs: 25-0

Comment by Dave Allen

38-0 after 3 overs, Adams 21, Hay 14

Comment by Dave Allen

Six overs: 60-0, Adams 32*, Hay. 25*

Comment by Dave Allen

Hay out for 26, Hampshire after ten overs are close to victory with Jimmy hitting a ‘free hit’ for six now past 50. 96-0

Comment by Dave Allen

Hampshire won by nine wickets in the 12th over. Adams 57* Holland 9*

Comment by Dave Allen

Second game, Lancashire batting v Sussex – openers: Davies & Hameed. I’ll post the result later.

Comment by Dave Allen

Sorry, Hameed playing but NOT opening

Comment by Dave Allen

As Jimmy and Dutchy are in the squad for tonight at the ‘Bowl, are there any ‘spares’ down there, Dave? I’m confined to barracks at the moment – woul love to have been there!

Comment by Bob Elliott

149-5 Lancs at the close. Young (and older) Middleton here but I’m wondering whether, since that 14 man squad was for today AND tomorrow, they will simply remain here and play. No sign of either departing, Hants players sitting in front of us on the boundary. Mason Crane was here but he’s probably departed now.

Comment by Dave Allen

Sussex need two to win with six wickets down, confounding my prediction of a tie and a super over! Robson, 89* to face.

Comment by Dave Allen

Should have said, last over but now it is over – with four balls to spare. South coast derby in the Final. All news to follow.

Comment by Dave Allen

Final starts at 4.40

Comment by Dave Allen

10 minutes to the start and it is a quite beautiful late-ish summer evening, very still and (T20!) VERY QUIET. Not a single snatch of Who Let the Dogs Out or Sweet Caroline all day, no fancy dress and really thoroughly enjoyable

Comment by Dave Allen

Both teams unchanged so Adams and Holland are staying here

Comment by Dave Allen

Power play over and the threatening Wells just bowled by Sole. Six overs, Sussex are 52-2

Comment by Dave Allen

Dave, is there a scorecard? Would appreciate one if there is (especially if we win!)

Comment by Bob Elliott

Yes Bob, I have two spare for you and Mr Griffiths

Comment by Dave Allen

10 overs, Sussex 86-2. Finch & Rawlins going well.

Comment by Dave Allen

112-3 in 13th Rawlins out for 40. One wicket each for Wheal, Sole & Holland

Comment by Dave Allen

Them Vipers won comfortably by 9 wkts and 21 overs.

Comment by Paul

Perhaps we should borrow a keeper, I see there’s one going spare at Essex. He’d strengthen the batting as well.

Comment by Paul

After 17 overs Sussex are 144-3

Comment by Dave Allen

Finch bowled from no ball, two caught from free hits, Finch has 52*

Comment by Dave Allen

Scorecard from the first game is here:

Comment by Jeremy

171-6, 172 to win. Wheal 2-23

Comment by Dave Allen

It’s suddenly very dark here. One over, 13-1, Hay bowled for 4.

Comment by Dave Allen

Dickinson and Alsop playing at the ‘Bowl. Dickinson dons the gloves.

Comment by Bob Elliott

Four overs gone, 39-1

Comment by Dave Allen

Next two balls, Adams and Holland out. 39-3

Comment by Dave Allen

Crane in England squad for West Indies Test. (Kev just informed us)

Comment by Bob Elliott

Organ gone too 45-4 in the 6th. Start my scooter …

Comment by Dave Allen

Scriven out, 60-5 in 9th over

Comment by Dave Allen

80-5 from 10 overs. Chris Sole hitting sixes

Comment by Dave Allen

93-6 from 12 Chris Sole out, ASher Hart joins Will Smith (26*)

Comment by Dave Allen

Will has gone and it’s 106-7 in the 15th

Comment by Dave Allen

CricHQ packed up then! What happened next?

Comment by Bob Elliott

Sorry, no idea. I left when the 8th wicket fell, drove back from Arundel to Pompey only to discover the result is no where and the score on CricHQ is earlier than the last one I gave.

If we won, it’s because someone like Salisbury hit 50 from the last two overs!

Comment by pompeypop

Dickinson looks very good behind the stumps 2 stumpings

Comment by Paul

Good Pompey name too!

Comment by pompeypop

Born in Natal though!

Comment by Paul

I believe South African birth is compulsory nowadays for aspiring cricketers Paul!
