I have a morning rehearsal and lunchtime gig so leaving early Comments to you guys – assuming we get going. In summary:

We have 140 points. Somerset can only get 147, so a draw and three bonus points for us is sufficient to be safe.

If Middx are bowled out for less than 200 and lose they can only get 146 points, so a draw and one bonus point will suffice – we’d be level, but they’d finish below us on more losses.

It’s between those three, Yorkshire are safe. The forecast for Taunton tomorrow looks ok now – rain will arrive but late afternoon/evening.

Might this be the first time since 2013 that we’ll know our fate before the last day?

I noted that yesterday the Middx & Somerset commentators remarking that no-one had reached 1,000 runs for them, and I added that was the case with seven of the eight counties. But at Hampshire it must surely be a first that no-one has reached 600? The main contenders are Vince (592), Bailey (555), Adams (551), Ervine (530) & Berg (526).

Lowest ever ‘most runs in a championship season’ is the 626 by CB Llewellyn in 1902. Worst since the war is 812 by NC Johnson in 2002. Obviously the number of games is a factor though.

Many thanks Tigger. Vince just out, now has 596 and Adams 554.

Probably both will still be short of 600 after the second innings with the form we are in.

Just to say Warks CCC have a live video feed on their website.

Warwicks 48-5 at 11.50 with Abbott having taken 2-0 in 9 balls but then leaving the field after slipping in delivery stride.

Comment by James

According to radio commentary Abbott has an ankle injury but is going to “give it a go” after lunch.

If Middlesex lose they could go down through the 2 points they were deducted because of their over rate at the Oval after being denied the chance to bowl the spinners when the game was abandoned early. But they could be reprieved and Somerset relegated through a points deduction for the Taunton pitch.

“England all-rounder Ben Stokes was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm after a nightclub incident in Bristol early on Monday” Quote from BBC website.

I thought that our top sportsmen were supposed to be role models!!

Smith to Durham at the end of the season. Not sure why he couldn’t go on loan now given that he hasn’t had a sniff of 1st XI selection all season. I assume he’s a stop gap for them to cover Jennings’ departure.
