Of fortune that is

If Hampshire save today it will be a fine effort and might cheer them up but after today, we shall start to wonder about the imminent 50-overs matches (a competition incidentally that I am fond of).

If we assume the worst about Abbott and add him to the absentees, Northeast and Dawson for Hove on Saturday, who does that leave?

Amla is certainly available at the start to add to the still fit guys who played in this competition last season who, in some kind of batting order are

Adams, Alsop, Vince, Rossouw, Ervine, McManus, Berg, Wood, Topley, Edwards.

That’s 10, plus Amla, 11, and two others who played last year are Crane and Holland – but are they fit?

If you then check the T20 from last year, there is also the almost-forgotten Dickinson, Wheal and one-match leg-spinner Lintott. Other than those, we have Hart, Organ, Sole, Stevenson, Taylor & Weatherley. That’s between 20-22 currently fit and available, but certainly some who are not that experienced at first team level.
