Middlesex (50 overs)

Almost 3pm and I’m just back from a very interesting day at the Ageas Bowl (of which more later), but with hardly any idea what’s been happening at Merchant Taylor’s.

Obviously a bit of weather/damp but I guess we’d settle for that target? Looking at the Vince/Taylor nine overs I’m assuming it’s a pitch for seamers not spinners – and we are chasing, as we’ve done in every 50 overs game so far.

The result & abandonment yesterday suited us, Essex dominating Glamorgan today doesn’t, so best we win.

Good bowling performance to restrict Middx to 199 with Topley taking 4 my worry is that Finn could be very awkward on this wicket. Think I would like to see Rilee go hard from the start.

So I guess Weatherley’s played pretty well again BUT, he’s got out just five balls after Vince went, which is not terrific, is it? I was disappointed by the criticism of his dismissal for 56 in the Championship at Trent Bridge, but surely he can’t keep keep getting things wrong at crucial moments?

Good win in the end. I was surprised that people were critical of the decision to send Mcmanus in on Sunday evening. He only faced two balls, including the last one. 30* from 24 balls today, follows innings of 41, 22*, & 2* – an average of 95 tonight, batting in his best position!
