What Will Happen & Who Plays?

The two questions. If the pitch at Old Trafford suddenly turns into a raging turner Hampshire’s best hope might be all out by about 2pm, setting Lancs 200+ in around 60 overs – there again that looks as likely as Germany being knocked out of the World Cup.

And on Saturday? The choices are looking limited, especially since from those who have played in the RL Cup so far, Fidel is disappearing to Canada, Amla has gone, Taylor, Wheal & Crane are injured. So, here’s a possible team (bowlers*)

Rossouw, Alsop (w/k), Vince, Northeast, Weatherley, Adams, Dawson*, Berg*, Wood*, Steyn*, Topley*

I’m assuming McManus will be unlucky, and I wonder whether Holland could make it as an ‘insurance’ sixth bowler. I doubt it.

Berg, McManus Rossouw, Vince and Weatherley have played all eight RL games so far, but they might not ALL play in the BIG one? Adams, Crane & Taylor have played seven, but might all miss out?

Our sole Lord’s final defeat was against Durham in 2007. The side that played that day was not the one that got us to the final, Stuart Clark being the notable absentee. With all the injuries, I fear for us on Saturday. Kent are playing with a lot of certainty at the moment.

Some years later I heard from participants that all was not well in the Hampshire camp that day – odd since Warne was captain. He was generally a terrific captain but there were mistakes – a knock-out at Bristol when he batted, dropping Watson from our first T20 QF, and in 2007, among other things, it was said bowling our openers from the wrong ends. Powell’s spell is the most expensive in our Cup Final history (apart from two overs by Katich in 2012).

As I remember it Shane Warne got frustrated with the nature of the dismissals of his batting partners on the Sunday; he evidently thought it was still a winnable game, not sure how many others at the ground did, but if you’re Shane Warne……

A certain person 😊 you can guess who was selected….
He should have been given out lbw to a big shout from Gibson I think, I would have given it ☝he got 12…
Went home shortly after this incident..

maybe depends on Weatherley today….decent score and he plays…otherwise I play Alsop. I think McManus plays regardless

I hope so. I think it would be a big mistake to omit McManus.
